Since being established in 2014, Empower Language Academy (formerly known as Empower Charter) has quickly become not only a strong educational option, but stands proudly as the highest performing two-way immersion program in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math in San Diego and the top-rated school in the Linda Vista area. With a mission of being a caring school community that provides students from all backgrounds with an educational experience that honors multilingualism, critical thinking, and fitness, Empower has the data to back up their work in a variety of areas.
In 2025, Empower was proud to be the top school in the area for ELA proficiency, not only in total but also in demographic groups including English Learners, Socio-economically disadvantaged students, and Hispanic/LatinX groups. The school is also performing the second highest in the area in Math while outperforming comparison schools and the state for demographic areas.
“We are seeing our students making accelerated growth in ELA while being in an immersion program which really highlights the effectiveness of this model,” said Executive Director Demi Brown. “Having our English Learners and Hispanic/LatinX students showing strong performance in all areas compared to state averages is also proof that this way of teaching and learning is effective no matter what language is spoken at home.”
With growth in both ELA and Math performance for 2025 indicators and other great data points related to behaviors like a chronic absenteeism rate of 7.6% (which is 9.5% lower than the state average) and low suspension rate of 1.8%, Empower students are clearly benefiting from a supportive and positive learning environment.
“We want to be an option for families where they not only know that their child will get amazing support, but that they will perform well in academics,” said Brown. “By bringing together a holistic approach to learning combined with our innovative Spanish immersion program, we are creating well-rounded students who achieve academically while also being good citizens who have empathy for others and an appreciation for others.
Serving students with Transitional Kindergarten (TK) programming through Grade 6, Empower Language Academy prides itself on a small and supportive environment that values cultural exploration and holistic educational experiences. All teachers are credentialed with most having masters degrees and being extremely dedicated to student success.
