Walk through our campus at Empower Language Academy and you’ll notice something special: the FUN that both students and staff are having! On any given day you’ll hear kids and teachers joking together, lively conversations, and friendships forming over lunch. You will see smiles in the hallways, engagement in the classrooms, and lots of movement and creative learning. That’s because Empower values joy and fun among our community of scholars.
Empower Language Academy believes learning takes place in the small moments, both in and out of the classroom, at a desk, or on the playground. We like to be ready for action and maybe a little messy creativity at any time of day—because learning is fun!
We make space for fun in our day by making sure we are prepared. We call our uniforms “Scholars on Top, Athletes on Bottom” because of the mix of dressy and casual. Students wear a colorful polo shirt on top and comfortable shorts or pants with just the right amount of comfort and stretch to help them run, jump, squat, and reach. At Empower, you never know when you might need to do a handstand right after giving a class presentation in two languages!
Movement and fitness are built into our day. Visit one of our CrossFit Kids classes and you’ll see the kids smiling AND working hard. Whether it’s a game, a warmup, or a circuit training workout, we make fitness fun, which means it will impact an individual’s life-long commitment to staying healthy and active.
We know that real, lasting learning is FUN! That’s why we weave joy into the curriculum and choose projects that are naturally motivating to students. Empower teachers plan for hands-on activities that connect children’s brains and bodies for authentic learning, like creating a museum exhibit to learn about the cultures of the world. We teach through thematic units that incorporate singing, visual arts, and technology. When you’re having fun, learning doesn’t feel like something you HAVE to do, but instead something you GET to do.
We even extend our ethos of fun beyond the 4 walls of our school building. As part of our commitment to building community, we offer workshops (when deemed safe to host large gatherings) to everyone in the community. We’ve had a variety of speakers from the county as well as fun cooking and kid classes. We believe joy is found in community and seek ways to engage the people around us.
Empower students and staff love to come together to have fun. Our annual spirit week is packed with activities and time to show our school pride. We also offer special dress-up days, like Disney Character Day and Dress Like a Book Day. And for students who want to show off a little of their personal style, we offer Free Dress Days throughout the year. Where else will you find a school that celebrates the small, but very important days like National Nachos Day and Star Wars on May the 4th (Be With You)?
